eQHealth Solutions recently honored Regional Medical Center of Acadiana and Women’s & Children’s Hospital with its highest-level award for improvements in the quality of care each provides patients.
Regional Medical Center and Women’s & Children’s Hospital are among 23 hospitals in Louisiana to achieve improvements in the quality care given to patients required by eQHealth Solutions to receive its 2013 Louisiana Hospital Capstone Quality Award.
The Louisiana Hospital Capstone Quality Awards are aligned with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ inpatient quality initiatives and recognize hospital achievement in appropriate care for patients with diagnoses of:
The clinical measure sets for the awards have been designated as national health care priorities by CMS. Quality improvement teams at Regional Medical Center of Acadiana and Women’s & Children’s Hospital have worked to use evidence-based practices to improve care for their patients.
“This award highlights the commitment of our hospitals to improve the delivery of care across all metrics,” said Kathy Bobbs, president and CEO of the Regional Health System of Acadiana, which includes Regional Medical Center and Women’s & Children’s Hospital. “We are incredibly proud of the contributions of the doctors and staff that helped achieve this distinguished award.”
Formerly the Louisiana Hospital Quality Awards, the Louisiana Hospital Capstone Quality Awards are aligned with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ inpatient quality initiatives. The awards recognize Louisiana hospitals that successfully implement quality initiatives directed toward improving patient care in the hospital setting, specifically in the areas of patients diagnosed with Acute Myocardial Infarction, Heart Failure, Pneumonia and Surgical Care.
These topics have been designated as national healthcare priorities by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
The Louisiana Hospital Capstone Quality Award criteria were based on the hospital’s overall score on the Appropriate Care Measures (ACM). ACM is a composite measure that captures whether or not a patient received all the care he or she was eligible to receive during an episode of care resulting in a discharge. The ACM is based on the measures providers were monitoring and improving upon during the first and second quarters of 2013.
The Hospital Capstone Quality Award recognizes hospitals that achieved an ACM score greater than or equal to the 70th percentile (86 percent) of the ACM score distributions.
“We all recognize that making improvements to our healthcare system comes at a slow pace. Our healthcare system remains broken. This is frustrating. Yet, as we all struggle to improve our state’s poor health statistics and poor health outcomes, progress is being made,” said Edie Castello, CEO of eQHealth Solutions.
“Healthcare providers in Louisiana have committed to reducing the rates of infections, pressure ulcers, surgical injuries, unnecessary hospital readmissions and many other key measures of healthcare quality,” Castello explained. “eQHealth is proud to recognize the providers and facilities that making health better for the people and communities they serve.”
